I have always loved books and illustrated books in particular. After deciding on a career in the arts, I studied Art, History of Art, and English Literature at University in Leicester. Whilst there I was shown how to make books as part of my degree course and began to make my own sketchbooks out of anything I could find: metal, slate, plastic, old fabrics, wooden crates, etc.
Whilst my main love is portraiture, my current artwork revolves around empty architectural spaces; places resonate with the activity and presence of human life. Whether in the quiet corner of a cathedral , or an abandoned football ground, I try to capture the spirit of place and to convey the quietness and echoes of past activity that these deserted public or private spaces contain.
